Singapore's Portek Indonesian and Algerian terminals enjoy 16pc box surge
SINGAPORE-based port operator, Portek International, handled a total of 521,100 TEU at its eight terminals worldwide as at September 30, representing 16 per cent increase in container throughput at the halfway stage of its fiscal year.
The star performers were its T0009 terminal in Jakarta - up 35 per cent to 140,500 TEU - and the Bejaia Mediterranean Terminals facility in Algeria, which enjoyed a 23 per cent spike to 120,340 TEU during the six-month period.
Portek CEO Takao Omori said the company was able to grow due to the "economic robustness of the countries where our terminals are found" despite the economic slowdown elsewhere. Of the eight terminals that Portek operates and manages around the world, three are in Indonesia, two in Gabon and one is in Algeria.
