The "Mary Arctica" hit an ice berg on June 1, 2017, at 2 a.m. in the waters around Nanortalik on the way to Aalborg. There were no injuries, no water ingress nor oil spill. The Royal Arctic Line sent to Qaqortoq for further inspection of the damage but could not yet comment on how serious the ship was damaged. The company intended to assess the damage properly when the ship comes to Denmark after inspections north of Nanortalik. On June 3, she was stull at anchor at Qaqortoq. The cargo was to be transferred onto the "Arina Arctica" (IMO: 8131180) and other ships deployed on Royal Arctic Line’s Greenland services. Repairs were expected to take two to three weeks. Customers were not affected.
