JAPANESE shipbuilder Imabari commands the world's largest orderbook for containerships with 42 vessels on order that have an average size of 11,950 TEU for a total capacity of 501,894 TEU, according to data compiled by Alphaliner.
What's more Imabari is the only Japanese company to be included in Alphaliner's top 10 list of containership builders worldwide, reported Singapore's Splash 247.
The box ship builder's most recent order came from sister firm Shoei Kisen, which ordered five 12,000 TEU ships in July for long-term charter to Taiwan's Yang Ming.
The world's number two shipbuilder is South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries with 19 ships totalling 349,000 TEU on its books, followed by fellow Korean yard Hyundai Heavy Industries in third place.
