Shanghai port to expand Yangshan capacity to 4 million TEU by 2017
SHANGHAI's deep-sea Yangshan port, near Pudong airport, 26 kilometres along the south shore from Shanghai, is to expand capacity by four million TEU by 2017 at a cost of US$1.79 billion in the fourth phase.
The fourth phase will see the expansion of some two kilometres of new quayside in the northern section of the port, reported SinoShipNews.
The development was put on hold back by port operator's Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) in 2008 because of concerns of container market slowdown and overcapacity of Chinese ports.
