SCFI: Lowest Asia-Europe rate in 2013, lowest Asia-Med since June
THE latest Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI) figures show the lowest rate level the Asia-Mediterranean component this year, while the Asia-North Europe rate shows the lowest prices since the end of June.
SCFI figures show last week's all-in Asia to North Europe spot rates fell 11.8 per cent week to week to US$675 per TEU, while Asia-Med services dropped 13.3 per cent to $726 per TEU.
Maersk's bunker charge for China to the Netherlands is $525 per dry TEU, while its charge for China to Italy is $600 per dry TEU. CMA CGM's bunker charge for both China to the Netherlands and China to Italy is $532 per dry TEU.
Last year, fourth-quarter volumes on Asia to North Europe services declined 6.6 per cent compared with the third quarter and during the same period, and volumes on services from Asia to the Mediterranean fell 1.2 per cent, according to Container Trades Statistics.
