THE saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) reported a total container throughput of 741,905 TEU in October, up 5.3 per cent year on year from the 704,486 TEU, reports London's Port Technology.
In October 2023, exported containers increased 9.72 per cent year on year to 204,903 TEU. Imports rose 5.32 per cent to 226,973 TEU year on year.
Transshipment containers also demonstrated growth, recording a 2.12 per cent increase, with figures reaching 290,110 TEU, up from 284,080 TEU in October 2022.
The ports effectively managed volumes of general cargo totaling 627,637 tonnes, solid bulk cargo amounting to 4.57 million tonnes, and liquid bulk cargo reaching 11.4 million tonnes.
Maritime traffic experienced a 5.46 per cent increase, with 1,062 ships compared to 1,007 in October 2022.
In a recent development, MAWANI and Saudi Global Ports (SGP) collaborated to establish a fully integrated logistics park covering over one million square metres at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.
Also, MAWANI received the Advanced Port Infrastructure Award at the Landmarks in Logistics Awards 2023 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
