Regional, OOCL, Gold Star and Yang Ming combine on 2 intra-Asia loops
THAILAND's Regional Container Lines, Hong Kong's OOCL and Gold Star as well as Taiwan's Yang Ming have combined to add intra-Asia port calls in two-loop China-Vietnam rotation without lengthening transit times, reports IHS Media.
"The two loops will allow us to add Xingang and Xiamen to the rotation while not compromising on the transit time," said Regional Container Lines vice president Charlie Chu.
The cooperative approach opens up a Thailand to Hong Kong and Shekou weekly service as well.
The north loop, which was first to sail from Dalian on August 12, involves four ships with capacities of 2,800 TEU calling at Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Shekou, Ho Chi Minh, and Laem Chabang before returning to Dalian via Shenzhen-Shekou, Hong Kong, and Incheon. Northbound voyages to Dalian from Laem Chabang start August 26.
Intra-Asia serves have been increasing as it is one trade showing growth. MCC Transport, Maersk's intra-Asia specialist, has improved southeast Asia access to Cambodia while expanding Cambodia's reach into North Asia. Shanghai's China United Lines now offers weekly service connecting Korea and China to Southeast Asia.
