Rates off 10pc to US$966/TEU on A-E, transpac off 3.7pc to $1,916/FEU
ASIA-EUROPE spot rates from the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI) last week fell 10 per cent or US$107 from the week before to $966 per TEU, the first decline below $1,000 in three months, while transpacific rates fell 3.7 per cent to $1,916 per FEU to the US west coast.
Asia-north Europe rates have fallen 35.6 per cent or $535 per TEU over six weeks, showing that neither rate increases nor a supposed rush ahead of China's national holiday Golden Week factory shutdown had any impact.
The current SCFI index to northern Europe is down 20.7 per cent year on year and 23.9 per cent lower than it was at the beginning of this year.
Shanghai-to-Med spot rates fell 9.8 per cent or $109 from last week to $1,006 per TEU, its lowest point since May 24, according to the latest SCFI data from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange with rates falling 32.6 per cent or $487 per TEU over six weeks. The SCFI index to the Mediterranean is now off 19.5 per cent year on year, and down 13.1 per cent from January.
SCFI spot rates to the US west coasts last week fell 3.7 per cent, or $73, from the week before to $1,916 per FEU with the current spot rate down 29.3 per cent year on year and 13.7 per cent below what it was in January.
The spot rate to the US east coast slid two per cent, or $69 per FEU, to $3,326, in the week ending September 13. The current rate is down 16.1 per cent from the same week in 2012, and off one per cent from January.
