PSA's Bharat Kolkata Container Terminals at India's Kolkata port lifted a record monthly container throughput of 61,755 TEU in October, registering the three millionth TEU handled by the facility since commencing operations in November 2014.
These milestones came after PSA Kolkata commissioned 11 new reach stackers to expand its landside container handling fleet and replace aging equipment. Furthermore, the terminal operator will take delivery of new and replacement tractor trailers by the end of the year.
Trial mobile harbour crane operations also recently started at a berth previously only used for geared vessels, increasing both productivity and capacity at PSA Kolkata.
PSA India's managing director Mike Formoso was quoted as saying in a report by The Maritime Standard, Dubai: 'Despite global trade uncertainties and a uniquely challenging operating environment, we are pleased to continue to grow at PSA Kolkata, with the support of our stakeholders.
'We see strong potential for west Bengal, not only for growth as a cargo generating zone but also as a logistics gateway to neighbouring states and nations.'
