NINGBO, now the largest importer of Taiwan goods, took in 886,300 tonnes under the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) in the first half from, a 33.4 per cent year-on-year increase.
These goods are valued at US$1.4 billion, 33.91 per cent more year on year, according to Ningbo Customs.
Xinhua reports that 2013 is the third year since the ECFA "Early Harvest" tariff concessions project was implemented. The third phase of the ECFA tariff concessions was started from January 1 this year, in which all of the 539 items of exports from mainland and all of the 267 items of imports from Taiwan on the "Early Harvest" list are now able to enjoy zero tariff.
Ningbo is one of the busiest ports in China for mainland-Taiwan trade. Ningbo is Taiwan's fifth largest trading partner. Since the start of implementation of ECFA, Ningbo and Taiwan's trade ties have grown with a steady rise in trade value.
Chemicals, raw materials, fruits and machinery are the major categories of Ningbo's imports from Taiwan under ECFA.
When imports of raw materials from Taiwan increases, imports of finished products manufactured in Taiwan are also growing, such as electronic equipments, machines and automobile parts.
