POLAND's deepwater container terminal at Gdansk (DCT Gdansk) has handled one million TEU in the course of a year after six years of operation.
Poland's newest and most modern container terminal met the record after the world's largest containership Maersk Mc-Kinney Moeller docked in November, a sign of its status and shifting the region's trade partners.
DCT Gdansk president Maciek Kwiatkowski said the achievement of attracting direct deep sea calls to the Baltic sea hub enhances Poland's status in the international maritime market.
"It is crucial for the whole Baltic industry to acquire a coherent pattern of container transport, with leading container port in Gdansk, and sufficient and modern feeder terminals in other main Baltic ports," Mr Kwiatkowski added.
