Panama Canal draft increases to 13.41 metres from 11.74
THE maximum draft permitted for neopanamax vessels to pass through the Panama Canal has been raised to 13.41 metres in tropical fresh water (TFW) based on the current water level of the Gatun Lake and forecast weather conditions in the near term.
Previously, the Panama Canal Authority had set the maximum authorised transit draft at 11.74 metres TFW, reported London's Tanker Operator.
This development follows the suspension of the draft restriction that was scheduled to go into effect on June 6, owing to dry weather conditions lowering water levels on the Gatun Lake.
