There has been an explosion which was followed by a fire onboard the Turkish Flag tanker M/T Tibil (101 Metres in Length, 1981 built) today afternoon at 13:24 LMT, the Turkish Coastal Safety Administration said. Accident took place while the ship was at anchor in the anchoarage of Tuzla Shipyards region, near Istanbul.
According to the information published at the Administration's web site; one fast rescue boat (Kıyı Emniyeti 6) and one voith-schneider class tugboat (Kurtarma 1) weere dispatched to the accident site.
Experts said (according to the Turkish marine news web site www.denizhaber.com ) the ship had no risk of sinking or capsizing.
The ship, which had a heavy list to her starboard side, on which the explosion took place, being re-stabilized by reshifting the ballast tanks, the web site said.
One dead, 4 injured
According to received news, one crewmember was dead and 4 injured in the explosion. The crewmember Mehmet Marat (34) who lost his life was taken to Kartal Dr. Lütfi Kırdar hospital.
