Offshore tug in trouble off Norway
On Dec 15, 2013, at 1.40 p.m. the Boulder" whilst towing a 180 meter barge got in trouble coming from Verdal. Because of the inclement weather the vessel suffered problems with radar and AIS in wave heights of 15-20 meters.
The "Boulder" then asked for a pilot and wanted to sail into calmer waters.
Two hours later, the emergency tug "Boa Heimdal" was on scene to guide the vessel to Vanylvsgapet and remained on stand-by at the "Boulder" for the following five hours. At 9 p.m. the tug "Filex" took over.
After the "Boulder" reached the Vanylvsfjord in the Seljesanden municipality in Sogn og Fjordane, the barge was secured at the wharf, and the "Boulder" was to proceed to Ålesund for repairs of its navigational equipment once the weather has abated.
