Oakland dock peace restored, operations resume after lockout
OAKLAND's SSA Marine's terminal operations have been restored after dockers were sacked when they insisted on how, and how many men would work on yard cranes, resulting in a lockout, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce.
The incident came about when dockers insisted on three-man crews rather than the usual two-man yard crane operation. The idea had been rejected in the labour talks, and simply imposed by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union on site.
