NYK ship rescues fishermen off the coast of the Philippines
A WOOD chip carrier operated by Japan's NYK Line has rescued nine fishermen in distress off the Philippines' coast on July 7.
The ship, the 49,549-dwt Crimson Polaris, was sailing from Australia to China in the South China Sea when the ship's crew members spotted the fishermen, pulled them to safety, and began administering first aid. The fishermen were then taken to safety by the coast guard the next day and returned home.
The fishing boat had set sail from Bolinao in the Philippines on July 3 and had overturned and sunk in bad weather two days later, a company statement said.
