NYK multipurpose ship rescues yacht in distress in South Pacific
A multipurpose containership owned by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NYK Line, the Pacific Islander II, rescued three people on September 26 from a yacht in distress in the South Pacific Ocean.
The Pacific Islander II was sailing from the Tongan port of Nuku'alofa to Noumea, New Caledonia when the NYK containership received a request from New Zealand's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to assist the crew of a stranded yacht.
The NYK vessel immediately manoeuvred towards the yacht and rescued all three on board at 1913 hrs (local time). The rescued crew were reported to be in good health and were taken to the port of Noumea on September 28.
