NOVOROSSIYSK Commercial Sea Port Group (NCSP), Russia's largest port operator, says cargo volumes totalled 12.7 million tonnes in January, an increase of 16.2 per cent year on year.
Compared to the previous month's throughput the result was 40.1 per cent higher.
Within this total, terminals handled 372,000 TEU, up two per cent year on year, while general cargo rose by 10.4 per cent to 1,093,000 tonnes, with all types of cargo showing growth, reported St Petersburg PortNews.
PJSC Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port CEO Sultan Batov attributed the cargo growth in January to the shifting of crude oil exports from December 2014 to January 2015.
Crude oil volumes in January amounted to 7,227,000 tonnes, up 13.8 per cent year on year, while the NCSP group loaded 9,633,000 tonnes of bulk cargo, representing on-year growth of 31.9 per cent.
NCSP Group cargo turnover for the whole of 2014 totalled 131 million tonnes, generating EBITDA of US$510 million.
