Four men from Smit Salvage by midday of Sep 16 have managed to establish four pumps to get water out of the "Nordlys". They have been inside the ship since about at 10:10 a.m. and are working to establish drainage records.
The list was reduced to 18-19 degrees at 12 a.m. and a fifth pump capable of 2500 litres/minute to be established. The "BB Ocean", "Far Scorpion", the "Mammut Krana III" and the "Sortland" of the Coastguard are attending too. The ship may be stabilized if the booms work and enough water gets out, and if the divers managed to seal the hull with magnetic mats which are to prevent water from entering.
Police have created a counting gate at the entrance to the ship to keep track of how many people at all times on board. There are around 500-600 cubic meters oil in the bunker tanks, and the fire department fears of pollution. Hurtigruten meanwhile try to help the passengers and crew who had to leave all their belongings on the ship. Embassies are working to obtain passports for all passengers so that they can return home. They have support staff on site also to ensure that there will be a follow-up of family members who are not on scene
