NEWPORT NEWS The Navy has awarded a $2.6 billion contract to Newport News Shipbuilding to conduct a midlife refueling and overhaul of the carrier Abraham Lincoln. The contract was awarded Friday, a day after the ship's arrival at Newport News. The overhaul had been delayed about six weeks because Congress had failed to pass an appropriations bill in time to begin the work.
