Neptune Pacific buys half of Pacific Forum from Samoan government
THE Government of Samoa has sold a 50 per cent stake in its wholly-owned Pacific Forum Line to Neptune Pacific Line for an undisclosed amount.
The deal effectively unites the two Pacific Island specialists, which combined will service 12 Pacific Island markets.
The two shipping lines have six chartered and owned vessels and owned agencies in Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, Australia and New Zealand and third-party agency networks in American Samoa, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, New Caledonia, Norfolk Islands and Nauru.
Alphaliner reports the services of both carriers mainly co-load on the vessels operated by Pacific Direct Line and through slots on certain segments of wider services operated by third-party carriers.
"Neither company currently operates their own ships," Alphaliner said. "As a result of this agreement, Neptune and PFL will provide services to all Forum countries except Marshall Islands, Niue and Tuvalu."
PFL chairman and Deputy Prime Minister of Samoa, Fonotoe Nuafesili Pierre Lauofo, said, "We are very pleased with this historic new partnership with Neptune Pacific Line.
"It ensures trade security and continuity for the Samoan people, as well as the Pacific Forum nations that PFL was created to serve, and also reinforces the employment of Samoan seafarers on ships around the world."
