On July 20, 2017, the "Svendborg Strait" was in a near collision with a disabled yacht on the Kiel Canal. The lifeboat "Crempe" of the DGzRS, transiting the waterway enroute from the DGzRS yard in Bremen to the station Kiel-Schilksee, remarked the 11-m-yacht adrift within the fairway. She had suffered a bottom touch and ensuing rudder damage and was unable to get out of the way. Also the "Svendborg Strait" would have had little chance to pass the boat with three adults and four children aboard, or to stop in time in the narrow waterway at Schafstedt. The crew of the "Crempe" did not hesitate and took the yacht immediately in tow. She could be pulled out of the danger zone in sight of the approaching container ship and was towed to Hochdonn.
