MOL on-time performance from China slips due to congestion and fog
JAPANESE shipping giant MOL's on-time departure performance on key services calling at China ports in East-West, North-South and Intra-Asia trade lanes suffered a setback in the three months ending in March.
In July 2015, MOL has established a 100 per cent on-time departure performance goal to offer industry-leading transparency to customers and to showcase MOL's strength as a carrier that provides high quality service.
MOL stated its operated vessels in its CSW-S, CWL-E, SAC-W and SAS-W services continued to achieve a strong on-time departure performance in January to March 2016.
But the overall performance of CWL-E was affected by port congestion at Ningbo which resulted in vessel delays, resulting in an overall performance level of 70 per cent in the three months to the end of March this year.
Dense fog and port closure in Shanghai and Ningbo also affected the overall on-time departure performance on Asia to South Africa service (SAC-W) during the three-month period. The performance slipped significantly from 100 per cent in October to December 2015 to 60 per cent in January to March 2016.
On Asia to South Africa service (SAS-W), the overall performance slipped from 91 per cent in October to December 2015 to 64 per cent in January to March 2016 due to dense fog and port closure in Xiamen and Hong Kong.
The liner also said that while attempting to maintain last quarter's performance level for all intra-Asia service, adverse weather interruptions in Japan (strong wind and rough sea) resulted in reduced performance in CHS-S and HS3-S services and significant delays. Berth congestion in Kobe also had some impact on the two services.
MOL operated vessels on CHS-S service slipped from 100 per cent in October to December 2015 to 77 per cent in January to March 2016.
The HS3-S service was also affected by the dense fog in Qingdao and port congestion in Japan during the New Year holiday resulting in the performance level dropping to 89 per cent compared to the last quarter in 2015.
