The 2,200 new units are equipped with advanced temperature control and enhanced dehumidification technologies to move meat, fruit, vegetables, seafood and pharmaceuticals to distant markets without negatively impacting quality on arrival.
"With these new units, we will be able to provide state-of-the-art equipment," said chief operating officer Yutaka Hinooka. "We will continue to invest and modernise our reefer fleet to include the latest technologies."
With the introduction of THE Alliance shipping network, the MOL Triumph, the first of a fleet of six 20,000-TEU vessels set off on her maiden voyage in April. This vessel boasts 1,500 reefer plugs, which further strengthens MOL's position as a market leader in perishable cargo movement, the company said.
