"Ming Guan" sank in Japan Sea, 3 dead
The "Ming Guan" sank in the morning of Dec 26, 2014, at 6 a.m. around 10 miles NW of Ajikasawa town in the Japanese Aomori prefecture in Honshu near the Tsugaru Strait.
The vessel was en route from Hakodate, Hokkaido, to Gwangyang with a cargo of scrap on board, after having reported water ingress and following engine failure on Dec 25 at 11.40 p.m.
The crew of 10 included two Bangladeshi, one Myanmar and seven Chinese.
Six of the crew were rescued, one of them being unconscious, three more, one Myanmarese and two Chinese, were recovered dead from the water,, one was missing. Thought the vessel was listed as dredger, it was believed it was a grab dredger which was chartered as a freighter to carry a cargo of scrap.
