ICTSI's flagship container operation, Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), is to complete the first expansion stage of Yard 7 by January and raise the facility's capacity 18 per cent.
The new area will act as an empty container depot (ECD) to store up to 4,300 containers in moderate wind conditions. Next to it are two more hectares, which the company aims to finish by the end of 2015.
"ICTSI has added four hectares of yard capacity at its flagship MICT with the recent completion of phase one of its Berth 7 yard development," MICT told IHS Maritime 360.
"Upon completion, the entire area of phase one will store 6,500 TEU. The new yard is part of ICTSI's US$35 million expansion project to meet growing needs of Manila."
The full development will increase the yard capacity by 500,000 TEU at the Manila terminal, with the full expansion expected to take 20 months.
Six new rubber tyre gantries are on order to be installed at the MICT or ICTSI's Subic facility.Peel ports
