MALAYSIA's Port of Tanjung Pelepas welcomed the world's biggest containership, the 19,224-TEU MSC Oscar last week.
This is a major milestone not only for the Tanjung Pelepas but also to Johor and Malaysia's economic development, said a port spokesman ahead of maiden voyage ceremony held at PTP to welcome the ship.
The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) ship is 395.4 metres long and 59 metres abeam, the size four football fields, having the largest nominal capacity in the world. It is also eco-friendly, and has high-efficiency systems with and state-of-the-art technology.
Among those attending the ceremony were Grace Chia, MSC corporate account manager; Iskandar Sham Abd Rasap, PTP chief financial officer: Laurids Uglvig, PTP chief operations officer; Glen Hilton, PTP chief executive; YJ Tan, SEA Agencies Asia (MSC) regional chief; Rosnan Fathlal Malaysian Marine Department, southern region director; Alex Chee, MSC special project manager; Sasedharan Vasudevan, PTP chief commercial officer and Kelvin Tan, MSC operations manager.
