THE world's largest containership and the second of the series of Triple-E vessels, the 18,270-TEU Majestic Maersk, has made its maiden voyage call at Ningbo, 13 days after it was delivered by Korea's Daewoo Shipbulding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
To mark the occasion, a grand port call ceremony was held at Ningbo where guests from local authorities, Ningbo Port Co Ltd, Maersk customers and representatives attended.
Said Maersk east and central China chief David Williams: "The introduction of the Triple-E vessels in Ningbo will further contribute to the development in the Port of Ningbo, and provide a solid foundation for Maersk Line's business growth."
Said Ningbo Port Group CEO Li Linghong: "Ningbo has received more ultra-large ships than any other ports in mainland China with a cargo throughput volume exceeding 100 million tonnes - 15.67 million TEU- annually. The introduction of Triple-E vessels to Ningbo will further strengthen the competitiveness of the port."
In 2013, Maersk Line will together receive five Triple-E vessels, which will be deployed in the AE 10 service on the Asia-Europe route.
