LUXEMBOURG aims to boost economic cooperation with Sri Lanka, with its Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn leading a delegation of senior officials to hold talks with the Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena at the Foreign Ministry.
Luxembourg extended felicitations to the new government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Minister Asselborn is the first European Foreign Minister to visit Sri Lanka since the election of the new President.
The two Foreign Ministers identified air cargo connectivity, finance and banking, green bond investments, and tourism promotion as priority areas to enhance further cooperation, ColumboPage reported.
Implementing the MoU between Cargolux and the Ministry of Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka was underlined, focusing on the Mattala airport. It was noted that with Luxembourg's position as a logistics hub in the Benelux region that air cargo connectivity would boost bilateral trade.
Both ministers expressed optimism that this visit would provide fresh impetus to identify results-oriented programmes for mutual benefit.
It was noted that Luxembourg is the second richest country in the world in terms of nominal per capita GDP and world's second ranked destination for investment funds after the US.
