THE Port of Los Angeles has posted 16.9 per cent increase in February container volumes year on year to 614,948 TEU, caused by an import surge attributed to the late arrival of Lunar New Year this year, which delayed the annual shutdown of Chinese factories.
February imports jumped 25.2 per cent to 318,547 TEU while exports fell 4.8per cent to 156,690 TEUs year on year.
Combined, total loaded imports and exports for February increased 13.4 per cent to 475,237 TEU year on year. Factoring in empties, which increased 31 per cent. Overall February 2013 volumes reached 614,948 TEU, up 16.9 per cent.
