THE delivery of the last three of five 2,808 TEU newbuildings for Log-In Logistica Intermodal SA that were ordered in November 2007 from the EISA shipyard near Rio de Janeiro has been delayed by between 24 and 30 months.
Rio de Janeiro-based Log-In says that the delay is due to the operational restructuring process underway at the EISA shipyard, and it will receive unspecified compensation for the delays, reports Alphaliner.
The first two ships of the five Brazilian flag units that will serve the South American nation's cabotage trades were delivered with slight delays in May and November 2011, respectively.
The third unit, Log-In Jequitiba, will tentatively be delivered in the first quarter of 2015. The ship was originally scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2012. The last two vessels - originally due in late 2013 - will now be delivered in 2015 and mid-2016.
Log-In says that its operations will be unaffected by the delivery delays as Brazilian shipping companies can charter foreign vessels to replace ships being built by Brazilian shipyards.
The company has chartered in three foreign-flagged vessels, ranging in size from 2,452 TEU to 2,797 TEU, for its domestic services.
