On Sep 25, 2017, the "Lifeline“ started its first rescue mission 16 miles off the Libyan coast where a Spanish naval aircraft had remarked a distressed boat. Before the rescue could start, a patrol boat of the Libyan Coastguard fired upon the "Lifeline" and requested the ship to stop with the recovery. Instead the migrants were to be handed over to the patrol boat which sent two crew members, which disembarked from the "Lifeline" 15 minutes later again as she was in fact in international waters. Then the rescue mission could be continued, and 50 migrants were recovered from their wooden boat. Before, the "Lifeline" had already rescued another 69 refugees and burnt down their boat afterwards. In a third mission about 120 migrants, among them eight children, were rescued from a rubber boat that day. The rescued migrants were transferred onto the "Asso Venticinque" later that day.
