Klaipeda Container Terminal
A report from the port of Klaipeda shows a significant rise in the container throughput in the major Eastern Baltic ports. According to the report, St. Petersburg handled 1.9 million TEUs last year, up 44 per cent. The next largest container port is Klaipeda, which handled 295,000 TEUs, an increase of nearly 19 per cent. After a 39 per cent rise, Riga is the third largest port with 254,000 TEUs handled last year.
The largest port in the Russia/Baltic States region is Primorsk, which, despite a small decline, handled a total of 77.6 million tons last year. St. Petersburg recorded a 15 per cent increase to 58 million tons. In third place, Tallinn handled 36.6 million tons (+16 per cent). Noteworthy is a more than 9 per cent jump in passenger volumes to 7.9 million passengers last year.
Klaipeda handled 31.3 million tons, up 12.2 per cent, while Riga recorded a modest increase to 30.5 million tons. In sixth place, Ventspils handled 24.8 million tons, a drop ofy 7 per cent.
