KAZAKHSTAN has started building a major transport and logistics hub in Kostanay to boost international trade and strengthen its role in global supply chains by creating modern infrastructure and increasing transit potential, according to the railway transport news portal Railway Supply. The project involves Kedentransservice and TLC Tobol with strong support from the Industrial Development Fund of Kazakhstan.
Investors have allocated around US$120 million for the initiative, reflecting its strategic importance for the region.
Spanning 133.6 hectares, the facility will feature warehouses, customs infrastructure, and service areas, ensuring the capacity to process up to 400,000 TEU or about 11 million tonnes of cargo annually for various markets.
The hub's launch will create approximately 500 new jobs for logistics experts, IT specialists, and operators.
Authorities plan to complete the project by 2027, significantly improving the region's economic stability and logistics network.
Kostanay already provides over 70 per cent of the country's iron ore exports and nearly 30 per cent of flour output while remaining a top importer of machinery and components. Its industrial importance continues to grow with ambitious new projects.
