Jebel Ali Port wins best seaport in Middle East for the 19th time
DP World's flagship Jebel Ali Port has been named the Best Seaport in the Middle East for the 19 years in a row at the 27th Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) 2013, organised by Cargo News Asia.
Four ports from the Middle East, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman, were nominated in the category and the winner was picked by readers of Cargo News Asia, according to World Maritimes News.
Kris Chang, managing director, DP World ?China, received the award on behalf of DP World, UAE Region at a ceremony in Beijing attended by top executives from the world's leading airlines, shipping lines and supply chain companies.
Mohammed Al Muallem, senior vice president and managing director, DP World, UAE Region, said: "To be voted the 'Best Seaport Middle East' at the AFSCA is always special for us. The 19th successive award reaffirms Jebel Ali Ports' premier position as the leading port in the Middle East. Our aim is to set the bar high in our region, delivering the best possible service to our customers."
Jebel Ali Port handled 13.3 million TEU last year. Plans are underway to increase total handling capacity to 19 million TEU by 2014 with a 1 million TEU expansion to the existing facility and the development of a new 4 million TEU terminal.
