THE western Japanese port of Kobe handled 893,425 TEU between January and April, up 4.9 per cent from the same four-month period last year.
Of the 893,425 TEU handled, 697,924 TEU came from foreign trade, an increase of 3.7 per cent, and the remaining 195,501 TEU came from domestic trade, up 9.3 per cent year on year.
Cargo traffic at Kobe port grew 7.7 per cent in April - the latest months figures were available - from a year earlier to 8.313 million tonnes, as domestic trade posted double-digit growth, according to preliminary data released by the Kobe municipal government.
Of the 8.313 million tonnes, 4.45 million tonnes came from foreign trade, up 4.5 per cent, and 3.86 million tonnes came from domestic trade, up 11.7 per cent.
The port exported 2.096 million tonnes of cargo, an increase of 9.4 per cent, and imported 2.356 million tonnes of cargo, up 0.5 per cent, reported IHS Maritime 360.
