GLOBAL maritime services provider, Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), says an orange alert warning has been issued for parts of Pahang and Terengganu in Malaysia, following severe flooding which has forced thousands of people to evacuate.
The ports of Kuantan, Kemaman and Kertih, and all land transport, have been affected by the flooding and crew changes are therefore likely to be affected. The monsoon season started in Kelantan and Terengganu last month and heavy rains were expected, but made worse by high tides causing severe floods.
Kuantan port has earlier issued a monsoon circular advising vessels of berthing restrictions during the monsoon period from November to March. Berthing will only be allowed from 0700 hrs to 1800 hrs as a safety measure during the northeast monsoon.
