ASIAN growth and global economic recovery will be a focus at the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) convention at the Sheraton Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui from November 5 to 7.
"But the underlying topic of debate at the conference will be 'is the customer getting what he pays for'. This question is set against growth and global recovery and how can IBIA can encourage measures to raise standards," said the statement from organisers.
The annual convention is a key part of the bunkering industry's calendar and will be attended by bunker suppliers, brokers, traders, shipowners and managers worldwide.
Hong Kong Environment Under-Secretary Christine Loh will open the convention. Arthur Bowring, managing director, of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association will tell about steps taken to impose costly low sulphur fuel mandates on all carriers calling at Hong Kong.
The IBIA provides an international forum for the bunker industry, to represents the industry to national and international policy makers, legislators and other groups and bodies. IBIA gained consultative status with the UN's International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
