KOREA's Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) have introduced a new West Latin Express (WLX) direct service to and from Asia, reports the American Journal of Transportation of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The new West Latin Express (WLX) will rotate through Kaohsiung, Shenzhen-Shekou, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Manzanillo, Buenaventura, Callao, Valparaiso, Lirquen - Manzanillo, Busan and back to Kaohsiung.
Since the implementation of WLX on August 15, capacity had nearly tripled with berthing in Chile, Peru, Colombia and Mexico, and a range of ports in Asia.
HMM Chile manager Matias Murillo said the new offer comes after restructuring of shipping services. "This is a service that has nine ships that average 4,700 TEU, where Hyundai brings three of its own ships covering the west coast of South America.?
Mr Murillo also said that given current market conditions, "our strategy is to strengthen the quality of service to our customers, as we see it is the way to make a difference in today’s competitive market".
Said Hyundai Emerging trade manager SC Lee: "This is going to be our big footprint to the west coast of South America. We’ve been here quite a few years, but now we participate in earnest."
Said HMM American president David Arsenault: "We want to work closely with each customer to understand his business and support his unique supply chain requirements."
