Hyundai Heavy Industries eyes US$2 billion UASC 11 mega-vessel deal
KOREA's Hyundai Heavy Industries is vying for a possible contract with United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) for 17 containerships valued at US$2 billion.
The deal would total 11 vessels of 14,000 TEU and six 18,000 TEU which would be deployed on UASC's new Europe to Asia service jointly run by China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL).
The deliveries will begin in 2015 once the order is complete in August "barring last-minute complications with the shipyard", said a Hyundai Heavy spokesman, according to Dow Jones newswire.
