Hutchison's Felixstowe port named Best Container Terminal in Europe
THE Port of Felixstowe, the UK's largest container port, has been honoured as the Best Container Terminal in Europe at the 27th Annual Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) held in Beijing.
Owned by Hong Kong's Hutchison group, the port scooped the award in recognition of its high quality of service and levels of productivity.
Said Hutchison Ports (UK) CEO Clemence Cheng: "With our location and a range of inland transport options by road, rail and short-sea shipping, we continue to offer the quickest, cheapest and most efficient way of moving cargo in and out of the UK."
The port is continuing to invest in new facilities, including the opening in late 2011 of new berths 8 and 9 which are the only berths in the UK capable of handling the next generation of ultra-large container ships. The port's third rail terminal is due to open in June. The new North Rail Terminal will double rail capacity at what is already the country's largest intermodal rail facility.
