Hutch extends Barcelona concession 15 years, will now automate terminal
BARCELONA has signed a deal with Hong Kong's Hutchison Port Holdings to extend its 30-year concession 15 years so it can fully automate the terminal, reports IHS Maritime 360.
Hutchison will invest US$6.5 billion to automate the Barcelona Europe South Terminal, boosting energy efficiency, reports IHS Maritime 360.
Local media has reported that HPH has ordered eight new remote-controlled quay cranes as well as automated stackers.
Overall traffic at the port was down three per cent in August against the previous year. But traffic from January to August rose four per cent.
