Houston Ship Channel is reopened after prolonged fog lifts
PILOTS have resumed boarding vessels on the Houston Ship Channel after heavy fog that plagued the US Gulf Coast for days lifted, enabling the channel to be reopened.
An unidentified dispatcher was cited as saying that the pilots were working to clear the queue of ships, reported Platts, McGraw Hill Financial.
At the time when the channel was reopened there 25 inbound waiting and five outbound ships. "As far as sailings go, we are all caught up, but inbound could take a day or two," the dispatcher said.
The 52-mile ship channel provides access from the Gulf of Mexico through Galveston Bay to various ports in Houston and other cities in the area that have many industrial facilities, including oil refineries and petrochemical plants.
