THE Italian government and the Taranto Port Authority have formally ended their relationship with Hong Kong's Hutchison Port Holdings with the transfer of harbour facilities on the heel of the Italian boot to the state agency.
"In compliance with the agreement signed on September 11, which provides the settlement of the relationship with TCT SpA in liquidation and the Taranto Port Authority, has formally returned to the port authority areas of the container terminal of the port or Taranto as well as relevant facilities," said the port authority statement.
"With the fulfilment of this action, the port authority is now able to start procedures to select a new terminal operator, which could have an interest in running the terminal," it said.
Hutchison withdrew earlier this year after container volumes fell from 892,000 TEU in 2006 to 148,500 TEU in 2014.
