HONGKONG International Terminals (HIT) has recently launched "BOXplus Building Operations Excellence", a 40-week efficiency enhancement study covering general operations, crane maintenance and customer service, the company announced.
The study aims to optimise HIT's utilisation of resources, streamline operations and enhance its handling capability in response to the repeated downtrends in Hong Kong.
"The downward trend of exports and imports in Hong Kong and mainland was a major topic of discussion at the 2015 Shenzhen and Hong Kong Port Development and Security Seminar on 27 March," said the HIT statement.
Hong Kong's container throughput dropped five per cent year on year for the first two months, with the figures for March container volumes looking equally low, said the company statement.
"Based on the figures from General Administration of Customs of the PRC, mainland's exports and imports value for the first two months dropped 7.2 per cent year on year, excluding the Chinese New Year spike. Imports alone for the period dropped 17.3 per cent," it said.
