Coming from Helsinki, where she had sailed on Feb 23, 2017, the "MSC Iris" ran aground on the Wester Scheldt on Feb 27 at 3:20 a.m at the Valkenisse Plate near buoy 66. Several tugs were deplyoed to provide assistance. The ship could be refloated just after 4:00 a.m. during the first salvage attempt. The "MSC Iris" was then escorted by the tugs "Union Eagle" and "Union Panda" to Antwerp where she will be subject to an inspection to see if any damage has occurred.
