Georgian sailors who survived the explosion "Edirne" in the Adriatic Sea returned to Georgia from Tirana on Jan 18. Required documents were prepared by the Albanian side and the owner of the vessel.
The vessel sank after an explosion in cargo tank on Jan. 15, three miles from Albanian Port of Durres in the Adriatic Sea.
The tanker unloaded more than 3,000 tons of fuel in the port and was leaving the port.
According to preliminary data, the cause of the explosion was the failure to carry out tank degassing after unloading fuel. The dead body of the captain, an Azerbaijani citizen, has been already identified.
The dead body of a Georgian sailor was also identified, but the body of the boatswain hasn't been found yet. The sailors will conduct further medical examination prior to departure for Georgia. Their flight was first to Istanbul and then further in Batumi.
