THE french ambassador to the Philippines expressed deep concern regarding the Chinese Coast Guard's (CCG) deployment of water cannons against Philippine vessels en route to Ayungin Shoal, reports Manila's Philippines Inquirer.
Earlier on the same day, the CCG once again utilised water cannons against ships engaged in a resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre.
The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea reported that this incident damaged the civilian ship M/L Kalayaan, posing a threat to the lives of its crew.
Additionally, BRP Cabra sustained damage as it was directly targeted by the full force of the water cannon employed by Chinese forces.
'Today more than ever France recalls the value of international law to ensure freedom of navigation and is, once again, seriously concerned by the use of water cannons in the Philippine EEZ [Exclusive Economic Zone] to prevent a resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre,' said French ambassador Marie Fontanel.
