All six crew members of the "Fisktrans" which got in distress in Steigen in Nordland were evacuated by helicopter in the morning of Jan 25, 2017. The ship reported rudder trouble at 5.05 a.m. and lost control off the Burnsound in Steigen in an SW gale. The JRCC deployed a Sea King rescue helicopter, the two lifeboats "Skuld" and "Det Norske Veritas" and a Navy unit. The vessel which had dropped anchor had so much equipment on the deck, that it was impossible to hoist the crew in the rescue helicopter from the deck. Therefore the crew had to jump into the sea to be hoisted up. At 7:04 a.m. the first man was evacuated. At 7:19 a.m. all six were rescued. At 7:24 a.m. the helicopter headed to Bodø. The lifeboats intended to take the "Fisktrans" in tow, but the ship sank at 11:17, a.m. The Norwegian patrol boat "Sortland" arrived at the sinking site at 1 p.m. to take care of any debris. There was also an emergency beacon in the sea, which is enabled and has to be recovered.
