The 'Calypso' suffered a fire on Aug 9, 2018. The fire broke out in an electrical panel in the engine room, causing damage to the generator. After extinguishing it, the crew worked to restart the engine by connecting the assembly to the power unit used to supply the fishing gear. In fact, putting the nets back on board proved to be tricky in this configuration, but the crew was finally able to do it. At the request of the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture, an assessment and intervention team took off from La Rochelle in the afternoon of Aug 10 aboard the Guépard Yankee helicopter of the French Navy and was dropped off on the ship which was in the Gironde estuary, about 80 kilometers from the French coast, but already on the way back to Belgium to verify whether the emergency repairs carried out enabled the trawler to continue the return journey, or whether it was necessary as a precaution to divert to La Rochelle. The experts judged that it could continue on his own, being mornitored by the maritime authority. The ship had been fishing in the Bay of Biscay.
